SUBJECT MATTER: TORTURE AND INHUMANE TREATMENTS, SUBJECTED ON BARRISTER TAMFU RICHARD, BY GENDARMES IN DOUALA, CAMEROON.
WE WISH TO BRING TO THE ATTENTION OF NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY AS FOLLOWS:
That according to reliable sources, Barrister Tamfu Richard was subjected to torture and inhumane treatment by gendarmes on November 27, 2024, in Douala Cameroon, while on duty, as equally seen on a video circulating online.
That sadly, such acts are not isolated incidents but rather part of a systematic pattern of abuse by Cameroon’s Defense and Security forces on citizens, often with little to no accountability.
That these barbaric acts violate Cameroon’s Penal Code and international laws, including the UN Convention Against Torture and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
That at the time of writing this report, there has not been any Official reaction from any State authority.
We strongly condemn these acts of brutality and demand:
- Immediate Investigation to ensure that perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted.
- The Cameroon Government must ensure that citizens’ fundamental human rights are respected and protected.
- That Barrister Tamfu Richard must receive adequate reparations and support from authority.
